Turkish-German Workshop on the Economics of Migration Held at Our Faculty
On June 23–24, 2025, an international academic event titled “Workshop on the Economics of Migration: Exploring the Roots of Migration Decisions” was held at the Turkish-German University. The workshop was organised with the contributions of the Jacobs Foundation, DAAD and DFG and in cooperation with ZEW Mannheim, Koç University, and Freie Universität Berlin.
The scientific committee of the workshop included Chiara Malavasi (ZEW & University of Mannheim), Giacomo Corneo (Freie Universität Berlin), Guido Neidhöfer (ZEW & Turkish-German University), Murat Kirdar (Koç University), and Pablo Zarate (ZEW & University of Mannheim). The local organising team consisted of Guido Neidhöfer, Elif Erbay, Murat Kirdar, and Nur Banu Kartal.
The two-day program addressed the multidimensional aspects of migration, including its impacts on crime rates, labour markets, public goods, as well as cultural and political outcomes. Various presentations also covered refugee integration, intergenerational mobility, and the role of social networks. Academics from Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, and Türkiye had the opportunity to present their research.
The workshop concluded successfully to strengthen academic collaborations and provide new perspectives on migration research.
