The opening lecture for the 2024/2025 winter semester of the Economics Department was given by the Economics Department Head Assoc. Prof. Erdem Kılıç on the Draghi report of the European Commission. In the highly acclaimed lecture with the participation of members and students of the Economics Department, the need for digital transformation and structural change of the European Union into a sustainable, climate-neutral economy was discussed. In addition, it was emphasized that it is important to strengthen the European domestic market, secure supply chains and invest in innovations and new technologies to increase competitiveness. The integration of European capital markets and the need for a European-wide governance and coordination for tax reforms to finance this transformation were also discussed. It was pointed out that reforms of the employment structure will also play a crucial role in this process. In this context, the role and importance of Turkey was also discussed. The opportunities and risks of the Turkish economy were assessed; the emphasis on alternative industrial and trade policies underlined the necessary need for reforms.
