TAÜ Department of Economics Took Part in SMTEA2026 with Research Presentations and Session Responsibilities

Members of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at the Turkish-German University, took part in SMTEA2026 — The Spring Meeting of Turkish Economic Association / Turkish Economic Association Spring Meeting — held by the Turkish Economic Association and hosted by İstanbul Bilgi University at the santralistanbul Campus between 7 and 9 May 2026, through research presentations and session responsibilities.
Within the conference programme, Research Assistant İbrahim Başaran from the Department of Economics participated in the Macroeconomics session with his paper titled “Hanehalkı Borcu, Finansal Kırılganlık ve Makroekonomik Dinamikler: Stok-Akım Tutarlı Ajan Bazlı Bir Model.” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdem Kılıç served as session chair in the International Trade session and presented his paper titled “From Reserves to Capital Flows: New Evidence on BRICS+ Financial Integration” in the session The Financial System and Globalisation.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Guido Neidhöfer took part in the conference programme with his two co-authored papers, titled “Intergenerational Economic Mobility in Central and Eastern European Countries” in the Economic History and Development session, and “The Long-Run Effects of Conditional Cash Transfers: the Case of Bolsa Família in Brazil” in the Health and Welfare session. Research Assistant Nur Banu Kartal presented her co-authored paper titled “Keeping Up at the Planet’s Expense: Longitudinal Evidence on Relative Concerns and Environmental Attitudes” in the Environmental Economics session. Kartal also served as session chair in the Behavioural Economics session.
The contributions of TAÜ Department of Economics members to SMTEA2026 reflect the department’s research diversity across various fields, including macroeconomics, international economics, financial globalisation, economic mobility, welfare economics, environmental economics, and behavioural economics. The conference brought together economists from Türkiye and abroad, providing an opportunity to discuss current research agendas and foster academic collaborations.
